Floyd Mayweather, the widely recognised undefeated boxing legend, has hinted he could fight UFC star Conor McGregor in a rematch – but this time inside the Octagon.
It will be recalled that the boxer ended his heralded career with a perfect 50-0 record after his 10th round TKO against McGregor back in August.
Purists of the sport claimed it was a farce – given that the Irishman had never fought in a boxing ring before.
The Notorious – meanwhile – said the result would have been completely different had his opponent fought in his own stomping ground – MMA.
And now, Mayweather has suggested he has received such an offer, in a revealing Instagram live video.
“I’m Money May, you know,” he said. “They just called me not too long ago and asked me to come back.
“If I wanted to, I can come right back to the UFC.
“I can go do a three or four-fight deal in the Octagon and make a billion dollars.”
While the 40-year-old didn’t mention his old foe, it seems likely that if he ever were to join the leading MMA brand, McGregor would be his opponent, given their history.
The lightweight champion has, himself, claimed Mayweather told him he would be up for switching the ring for the Octagon.
“He did say an MMA fight,” McGregor revealed last month.
“So if he wants to, let’s do it. I’d like to see him come over to our side and have a knock.
“I earned their respect and put myself out there. Style over to my side and earn our respect now.”
